The police said that Vimal married Munni Devi, his second wife, a few years after his first wife died in the 1990s. “Around a year ago, Vimal started a relationship with Kushboo Awasthi. Around two months ago he married Kushboo at a local court and brought her home, leading to a dispute in the family. The family members were also angry with him for spending his savings on Kushboo,” said a police officer.

According to the police, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the two brothers attacked their father, stepmother and grandfather with a sharp-edged weapon when they were asleep. Munni Devi was not present at the house at the time of the incident.

Kanpur Dehat Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) BBGTS Murthy said the accused were arrested while trying to flee from the area.
