Months after a 25-year-old man created a fake Instagram ID of a teenage girl and posted objectionable photos and audio clips to harass her, the Delhi Police arrested him in a case of cyberstalking and sexual harassment. Police said the accused allegedly harassed the minor after her elder sister rejected his advances.
The accused, Furkan Md, has been booked in a case under the IT Act and POCSO Act. Police said the minor and her family complained that he created the fake ID using her name and photos. To this ID, he added objectionable photos and audio clips. He sent the same content to her relatives and friends, police said.
As per the police, a complaint was received on May 29 at the cyber police station. A woman alleged that her daughter was being harassed and defamed because of the fake Instagram ID.

DCP (Northeast) Dr Joy N Tirkey said, “We first gathered technical details of the fake ID and analysed it. We then traced the systems used to run the ID and a suspect was identified. Several raids were conducted in and around Delhi to catch him.”
During questioning, Furkan broke down and confessed. The DCP said Furkan wanted to date a woman but she rejected him. He had also proposed marriage to her but she turned him down. “Dejected, he decided to take revenge by defaming her family. He downloaded photographs of the woman’s minor sister… from Facebook and Instagram and posted them on a fake ID. He also uploaded vulgar audio clips over her photos and posted obscene material,” added the DCP.
“We found that he is already married and has two kids… We have seized the OPPO phone used by him along with the objectionable content,” said an officer.
