Police have arrested a 40-year-old sales specialist of a multi-national cyber security company, for allegedly befriending the deputy manager of a private bank on a matrimonial site, and sexually exploiting her on multiple occasions in Mumbai, Lonavla and Singapore, after promising marriage. The woman later discovered that the accused was already married, and a father to a five-year-old. The accused had also allegedly bugged the woman’s phone and could track her calls and messages.
The accused was arrested on Saturday by Borivali police and is currently in police custody.
As per the FIR, filed on Friday, the accused first met the complainant on a matrimonial site in 2011. But the two did not interact much, as the accused allegedly became the reason for the complainant’s breakup with her boyfriend. In 2014, he again contacted the complainant via LinkedIn and apologised for the past indiscretion, but she did not respond. In 2017, when he sent her a gift at her workplace, she didn’t accept the gift, but decided to give him a chance and began talking to him. When she asked him about his engagement, he said he had called it off.
In November 2017, he invited the complainant to his Borivali home for his birthday party, but when she reached there, she found him alone. “He said he was in love with me and established a physical relationship with me against my consent,” the woman stated in her statement to the police. On December 9, 2017, he allegedly again got physically intimate with her against her will at a Lonavala resort. He then met the woman’s family and told them he was going to marry her.
In March 2019, the complainant discovered he was married and had a five-year-old child. When she confronted him, he said he was divorcing her and would marry the complainant because he loved her. He forced himself on her sexually on other occasions too, the complaint alleged.
In March 2022, he allegedly bugged the complainant woman’s phone and began tracking her calls and texts. She siad she found a ‘spy’ app on his laptop’s hard drive, the FIR states, and alleged that he recorded her nude video, and suspected he shared it with his wife.
