Jinaraj, ‘Serial absconder’, fails to report to jail after temporary bail, court issues arrest warrant | Ahmedabad News

An Ahmedabad district court has issued an arrest warrant against Tarun Jinaraj, accused of allegedly murdering his wife Sajni on Valentine’s Day in 2003, after he has failed to report to the Sabarmati Central jail following his temporary release in August.

Jinaraj is accused of allegedly strangling his wife after just three months of marriage at their home in Ahmedabad, and was caught in 2018 from Bengaluru after absconding for 15 years.

He was granted temporary bail for two weeks by the court of Justice Nirzar Desai of the Gujarat High Court in an order dated July 20. A police official confirmed that Jinaraj was released on temporary bail between August 4 and 19, with his return slated for August 19 as per the HC order. However, he has failed to return to the jail.

According to the prosecution, the temporary bail was sought on the grounds of making financial arrangements. It also cited that his mother was old and alone.

Upon his failure to turn up, the Sabarmati Central jail authorities wrote to the High Court registrar on August 23 notifying that Jinaraj had absconded, violating the bail conditions, a police source said.

A copy of the communication was also sent to Ranip police station — the jurisdiction under which the Sabarmati Central jail falls, the Sarkhej police station where the original complaint was filed, the Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch that had investigated and cracked the case, the Ahmedabad Special Operations Group, and the city police commissioner, a police official said.

A Ranip police station official said they received the communication on August 28, while Sarkhej police station inspector said it was yet to receive any communication in this regard.

Incidentally, the court of Justice Moxa Thaker had, earlier in May, refused to grant temporary bail taking into account that the accused was arrested after a long time. It also noted that his mother had been receiving a pension of Rs 34,000 per month. However, the HC granted the temporary bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with two local sureties of Rs 50,000.

The bail conditions stated that he was to surrender before the jail authorities on the completion of the temporary bail period. If he had to leave Gujarat, the accused was asked to inform the concerned police station his place of stay in Karnataka, his native state.

Notably, Jinaraj also faces a 2019 FIR at a Bhopal police station in Madhya Pradesh for using forged documents to prepare a forged passport, using which, he had purportedly obtained a job in multinational companies and had visited the US several times.
