Post a successful career in TV, actor Ishita Dutta made her way into Bollywood with Drishyam. Presently, she is also a successful content creator, having made her mark on multiple social media platforms. The actor also embraced parenthood with husband Vatsal Sheth, and stated how the two are in the ‘best phase’ currently, with their son Vaayu now reacting to them.
In a chat with indianexpress.com, Ishita shared how the first three months were crazy as it was a ‘new experience’. The actor said how she was ‘all over the place’ but now with her son smiling and reacting to her, she cannot wait to play with him all day. She’s also been vocal about how as parents, one needs to take out time for themselves and each other while bringing up a kid. “That has been my focus from day one. A lot of mothers go through guilt but one needs to be happy to raise a happy kid. If you have a support system, I feel every mother and father needs to step out and spend time alone and as a couple. I didn’t even wait for 40 days and decided to go out in 2-3 days, because I was so overwhelmed and emotional.”
The actor also advocated that couples too need time for themselves as after a baby, priorities usually shift. “Once I had a baby, I realised why a lot of couples face problems after having a baby. Your focus is so much on the baby that you forget your relationship. As a couple, we made sure we spent time with each other, went for drives and coffee. Recently, we also took a trip where we asked the grandparents to look after the baby, while we spent some quality time together,” she said.
Ishita Dutta added that working is something that makes her happy, and so she worked continuously through her pregnancy and continues to do so even now. She added that though consciously, she is taking lesser work, and so is Vatsal. The actor said, “Time is literally flying and we both want to spend time with our child. At the same time, I also want to be creatively satisfied and do some good work.”

When asked if the perception that female actors’ progress sees a decline after marriage and motherhood is finally changing, Ishita said, “Of course, we have seen so many examples of the same. However, few continue to believe that. I remember a colleague coming to me on my wedding day and saying how it’s the end of my career after marriage. I was shocked but I have always believed nothing will change, and it didn’t. I won’t lie, during pregnancy, my phone wasn’t ringing but that’s understandable as physically I couldn’t travel a lot.”
The actor, who is set to be a judge on Hipi’s dance reality show, also spoke about how the line between influencers and actors getting blurred. Addressing how it’s said casting is done based on social media numbers, Ishita said that ultimately, it’s talent that takes you places. “Not everyone gets to act honestly. But look at Prajakta Koli, she did so well in her series. She may have created interest because of her numbers but the work will only come because of her performance. You will not watch someone random daily. That person needs to be good at their work.”
On a final note, the actor shared that it was elder sister Tanushree Dutta, who advised her to not worry about mediums. “She told me to just keep working. I started with TV and back then, many said I would never get a break in films. I just did another one. I am so glad I can be an example that nothing can stop one from growing. You just need to have patience,” Ishita Dutta concluded.
