Former doctor of PGI arrested for ‘raping’ staff nurse, duping her of `1.50 cr on pretext of marriage | Chandigarh News


A 45-YEAR-old former doctor of PGI was arrested for allegedly raping a widow staff nurse and duping her of Rs 1.50 crore on the pretext of marriage.

The accused was identified as Dr T M Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. He was arrested from Thiruvananthapuram and brought to Chandigarh on Sunday. He was produced in a local court which sent him to judicial custody. A team headed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Chander Mukhi, incharge of PGI police post, arrested him.

Police said that the accused had been working at the dental department in PGI. He resigned from PGI and opened his private clinic in Kerala in 2018.

A police source said, “The victim staff nurse, whose husband had died in 2017, filed a police complaint against the doctor at public window in police headquarters, Sector 9, last month. A high-level probe was ordered and the offence on the part of Dr TM Rajesh Kumar was established. The woman alleged in her complaint that TM Rajesh Kumar had allured her that he would marry her and made physical relations on that pretext with her.

She alleged that he also started taking money from her promising that he would construct a house in Kerala and they would settle there after marriage. She claimed in her complaint that besides taking cash from me, TN Rajesh Kumar was aware of the bank details, password etc of her account. He transferred the money from her account to his account without her knowledge.”

The source said, “Accused TM Rajesh Kumar had resigned from PGI and shifted to his native state where he opened his private dental clinic in 2018. After resigning, he was continously in touch with the victim, who further alleged that he also made physical relations with her at a Delhi-based hotel on the pretext of marriage. In 2022, when the victim demanded her money back, the accused stopped attending her phone calls.”

A police officer said, “Dr TN Rajesh Kumar was aware of the FIR against him but he declined to join the police investigation. He is married but separated. We arrested him tactically while sending one of our team members in disguise of a patient. As he came to attend the patient, we nabbed him. We informed our counterparts in Kerala about his arrest. The victim is around 10 years older than him.”

A case was registered at Sector 11 police station.
