Britney Spears recently separated from her actor-husband Sam Asghari after 14 months of marriage with the latter filing for divorce. Following the split, the singer has spoken for the first time with a candid post on Instagram.
“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together,” she wrote, adding that six years is a long time to be with someone, so she is “a little shocked”.
Clarifying that she is “not here to explain why because it is honestly nobody’s business”, Spears added, “But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly. In some sort of telepathic way, I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you.”
She opened up about “playing it strong” for a long time and said that while her Instagram may seem perfect, it’s far from reality. “I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but for some reason, I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses. If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors. But that’s when I needed family the most.”
She concluded by saying that one is supposed to be loved unconditionally. “So I will be as strong as I can and do my best. And I’m actually doing pretty damn good. Anyways have a good day and don’t forget to smile,” she said.
For the uninitiated, Asghari cited “irreconcilable differences” in a divorce petition filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday. He also asked for spousal support and payment of legal fees to be paid by Spears, according to the documents.
Spears and Asghari first met while shooting the video for her song, Slumber Party, in 2016.
A source told People that despite navigating the difficult time, the singer is still “in great spirits despite everything going on”. “Obviously it’s never an easy thing to go through, but she’s remaining positive and focusing on the future.”

The source added that the former couple, who was struggling for months, made the decision to “move on a few weeks ago”.
Announcing the split, Asghari wrote on Instagram: “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other, and I wish her the best always. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
