Mysuru city police arrested Mahesh K B Nayak, a resident of Banashankari in Bengaluru, on Saturday. He had married at least 15 women since 2014. Sources said that of the 15 women Mahesh married, four have children from him. Another woman, too, has approached police alleging she was also cheated by him.
Mahesh used matrimonial sites to entice women into his trap. He posed as an engineer or a doctor most of the time, said police.
To give credence to his claims of being a doctor, Mahesh even set up a fake clinic in Tumakuru, and had even hired a nurse.
Several women rejected Mahesh’s marriage proposal when they heard him speak English. His poor language skills acted as a red flag to many of his potential victims, added police.
He was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the Mysuru woman whom he married in a city in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in January 2023. She lodged a complaint after he started harassing her for money to set up a clinic. He allegedly fled with her jewellery and cash when she did not give him the money.
Mahesh rarely met his wives. Most of the women he had married were well-educated and professionals and did not depend on him for their financial needs. They never filed a complaint even after they realised that they had been conned fearing embarrassment and stigma, added police.
